SHEEPSKIN CAR SEAT COVERS – A WARM WELCOME
When it comes to wool, I accept no compromise. I’m a total wool tragic – from ugg boots, sheepskin car seat covers, moccasins and slippers to the humble woollen throw rug. They may be a little on the ‘traditional’ side, but a pure wool jumper or cardigan is the ultimate warm winter wear.
I have a childhood memory of riding for the first time in a car fitted with sheepskin carseat covers. It was a bitterly cold day and the amazing feeling of warmth that greeted me on getting into the passenger's seat was just sublime. So much soft warmth was just what I needed and it was not long before I was drifting into that pleasant state of semi-consciousness. I was only a child at the time, but right then and there I vowed never to own a car that did not have sheepskin car seat covers. It is a promise I have kept over the years. Now it is my children's turn to snuggle up in their car seats and I drive in absolute comfort and warmth.
It is simple common sense to create a comfortable environment in the vehicles in which we spend so much time.
Every now and then, some well-meaning person will have a go at me for using an animal product. I invariably counter this with the fact that the animal was going to be consumed for food anyway and it is ridiculous to not use the other parts for a practical purpose. It’s an ongoing debate, and it’s always worth examining both sides of the argument.
The case for the use of by-products from food production is pertinent however. If we were to discard the by-products of our meat industry, we would be contributing to the waste that is the hallmark of modern society. For time immemorial, mankind has used as much of a slain animal as possible, by doing this they respected the animal’s sacrifice. It is a philosophy I think modern man could benefit from.
For all our advancement, we are yet to create or discover anything that can beat out wool for sheer effective warmth. No matter how many times I am told that something is 'as good as the real thing', it doesn’t hold true for wool. There is no substitute.
For myself I have no intention of driving through the streets of Perth in anything but authentic woollen sheep skin car seat covers.
