Decorate Your Bachelor Apartment With Style
A bachelor pad might be the first space that's truly yours. Get down to business and decorate that space for maximum impact and a comfortable style. You'll feel more at home and always be proud to bring friends and family over.
Stick with neutral colors. Browns, blues and taupe are all good choices and solids tend to work better than patterns. If you're renting and are not able to paint the walls, think about other ways to add color. Large prints and artwork are fine, but keep it tasteful.
Choose your furniture well. Since everything is in an open space you'll need it to be ordered and tidy. Try a Murphy bed that will fold out of the way or a Captain's bed with built in storage drawers. Look for other ways to keep clutter tucked away - bins and boxes near the computer workstation desk and shelving on the walls and floor. Pieces that work twice as hard are great, like coffee tables and ottomans with storage space inside.
Organization is important. From the front door to the edge of the room, you need a place for everything. Keep that brown boot and court shoe tucked into the front closet and the dishes stacked in the cabinets. Clutter covers even the boldest decorating and will feel chaotic. Keep it calm and clutter free.
Decorate the kitchen in neutral colors as well. Even if you can't change out counters and fixtures, see if it's possible to give cabinets a repainting. Pick up placemats and runners for spot color and choose unique open storage like funky bowls or canisters.
Cleaning up is an important part of decorating. Maids and private chefs are not likely in the budget, so this part will be up to you. Keep on top of things by tidying and cleaning up as you go. When you leave dishes and laundry and clutter to pile up, the task will intimidate you and you'll find any excuse to skip it. Store all of the cleaning supplies together in the bathroom or kitchen and set up a schedule for short bursts of cleaning chores.
Simple window treatments are best in your small space. Roller shades in neutral tones are light weight and work well. Stay away from drapes that take up too much of the limited space. Go for sheers if you want length or simple blinds for practicality.
Take a little time to decorate your new digs and you'll feel even more at home. Impress your guests and live better in a well put together bachelor pad.
