In today’s world, traveling by train is not a very popular thing to do. Which is not very surprising due to the faster ways of travel such as airways and the bus is much cheaper etc. the best thing to why train travel is still around is because of the unique experience that goes along with it. There are several ways to make the most out of your travel on a train whether it is from city to city or country to country. A train ride offers a different type of fun that many do not ever experience anywhere else.
While taking in the views from the train you should plan to have patience on your train travel, as it does take longer by train than by car. Due to unforeseen train traffic there may be delays in the train schedules. The train is a great place to read that novel you have been meaning to read or maybe you have a stack of magazines and catalogs to go through. Reading on the train is very enjoyable because of the smooth ride.
If you enjoy crossword puzzles or Sudoku, word searches, writing to family & friends the train travel is perfect for these activities. Take along some books on tape, music cds or your iPod to listen to while you watch the world go by your window.
If you are traveling with children on the train, make sure to bring plenty of activities so you do not have to hear the “Are we there yet” chorus. Maybe pack a small bag or backpack for each child containing their favorite books, some coloring books and crayons, and some small quiet toys. Hand held video games can also be a lifesaver for Mom and Dad too! Don’t forget to pack some small snacks and a pillow or favorite blanket for naps.
Don’t be shy when you are on the train either. It can be a very good time to make new friends and maybe find another family with kids if you have them. Or it can just be a time to make conversation dso you don’t find yourself regretting the ride.
Last but not least, do not forget to visit the dining or café car. Stop in for a cup of coffee and a quick snack. If you prefer you can go at meal times and have a full fresh meal with your family. These are all pleasant ways to keep yourself occupied on long train trips.
