Painting Set
We Shopped Till We Found What I Wanted
Today I was on a quest for a black dining room set to put in my new dining room. I had painted, bought a Persian rug and I was not going home without a table and six chairs.
My best friend Jeanne was a wonderful amateur interior decorator. She had advised me on how to plan a room in the past. I helped her do some painting and shopping. Her bedroom was gorgeous, done in shades of burnt orange. It was contemporary and had large flowers on the quilt set. On the walls, she hung framed pictures of orange flowers and had pale orange curtains.
As we entered the store, a salesman came over to talk to us. He led us over to where the dining sets were. There were four sets in black. We looked at every set. It was hard to choose from among them.
We saw one with cushions on the chairs. I liked it but it was too hard to think how it would look in black. We left for another furniture store. They were having a great sale today. We went to the parking lot and drove over. We talked over my plans.
She gave me some good advice about paint swatches and curtains. I rather liked the sheer panels with tab tops. I already had a nice Persian rug with green tones. That would go under the table. As we talked I decided round black dining room sets were what we should look at next.
A salesman approached us at the door of the second store. I'm looking for a new dining room set I told the salesman. I just decided one of the round sets would be perfect for the room. I do want one in black wood, I told him. He said he had several on the floor. We walked over to see the selection. It was a good one.
He filled us in about different wood types and prices and the quality items they had. I asked if anything was on sale today. He said no but he would take off a certain percentage if I purchased a quality set. That was fine since I wanted quality, not cheap. There stood one of the most gorgeous round dining room sets I had ever seen. I wanted it immediately. The round table had six matching chairs with cushions.
The friendly salesman filled out the order and I signed. We all walked up to the front desk to pay. I got out my credit card. We agreed on a delivery date and I agreed to next Friday.
I said I had to buy a replacement for the electric rice cooker I had dropped and broken. He grinned and said with the significant discount, I could probably afford it. I said I hoped so. He gave me his business card and Jeanne and I left the store.

Frequently Asked Questions...
what tarriff should I set for face painting parties in the UK???
Hi, i charge £2.00 per design/face when i am working at a location for face painting but i want to do birthday parties. I can paint 10-12 faces an hour and want to be booked for a minimum of 2 hrs and charge around £60 for the first 2 hours... i don't know how to set the tarriff for any further time needed... what i mean is when a customer rings to book a party and asks prices i will say £60 for first two hours and that i can paint 20-24 faces in that time, but do i then charge per person for anything over 24 or do i charge per hour, and what if in the first two hours i don't get to paint 24 faces because they don't que up, but then they all want it done in the next hour!!!ahhh it is driving me mad , i just need help, if you are a face painter what do you do, or have you booked one and how did they set the tarriff? thanks hope you can make sense of this!!!
Answer:
The simplest method is to charge a flat hourly rate.
Inform the customer that your rate is £60 for the first 2 hours and £35 for each additional hour. You will also want to let them know that, on average, you recommend one hour per 8-10 guests (this provides some leeway).
If the client pays for 2 hours and the kids do not queue up for the first hour, then you may want to inform the customer that additional (booked on-site) hours are available at your normal £35 per hourly rate.
Hope this helps!
