Finding Your Purpose In Life is easy
Many of us ponder what our purpose is in life. Your ultimate purpose (and yes, we all have one) is not the same thing as your ideal career, your ideal house, or even your ideal family. Your purpose in life is the reason why you were born; discovering it brings everlasting joy and affirmation to your life. Your purpose, when discovered, can change your life in ways you have never imagined. It's like finally getting a map when you have been wandering around lost in the wilderness for years.
At some point in all of our lives, we ask ourselves the ever- looming question "Why am I here"? Some of us procrastinate and put the question off for as long as possible; keeping our minds occupied with day-to-day duties like work, family, and friends. This provides a temporary oasis from the inevitable "Why am I here" question, but it's only temporary. To find your true awesomeness, you must determine your life's purpose.
Finding your purpose may not necessarily mean quitting your job, moving to another country, or solving world hunger-or maybe it will. That's for you to determine. The main thing you want to remember, is to never (and I mean never) settle. What does it mean to settle? Well, it can mean a lot of different things. Some people wait so long to ask the dreaded question that they begin to believe that they have no true purpose. Others are very excited about finding their purpose, but get frustrated quickly and just pick something random. Remember, fulfilling any old purpose is not the same as fulfilling your life's purpose.
The universe needs you to perform the exact purpose you were created to fulfill. Disease, hunger, and poverty are just a few examples of what can happen when we as a species are not fulfilling our life's purpose. If you find that your purpose s to help solve these issues, that's great. If it is not your unique purpose to solve these problems, you will not be successful.
Here's a good illustration: Many years ago, I was an automobile mechanic. I had a great deal of tools; each designed to perform a specific repair. Each day, I would routinely use a select portion of these tools to do just about everything I needed to do. One day, I noticed that I had an odd-looking tool that I realized I had never used. I stared at it for a moment, and wondered why I even kept it- after all, it just took up space. I had everything I needed to do the majority of the repairs I was required to perform. A few days later, a car came in with a strange running problem. It was making a funny noise, and it was finally determined that a sensor had gone bad. The shop foreman said we would have to special-order a tool to repair it, and I would not get paid on the job until it was complete.
This was not good, since I really needed the money! Suddenly I realized the lonely tool in my box I was so willing to throw out just days before was the very tool we needed! I grabbed the tool, and realized that it was fulfilling its life's purpose to help me at this very moment. If that tool were able to choose at random what it wanted to be, I'm sure it would have chosen to become one of the tools I used regularly. I know that is a silly comparison, but if that tool could and did choose to become something it was not designed to do; it would have made my life a lot harder!
The moral of this story? Fulfill YOUR life's purpose, however small or insignificant you think it may be. There is someone out there that needs you to do what you were made to do.
Finding your purpose
Finding your purpose in life is not really that hard, but it can be very time consuming. After all, many of us have never really truly sat down and attempted this. After this little exercise, you will know what your purpose is. Here's what we are going to do: Get a sheet of blank paper. No, really, go get one right now. It's time to stop the procrastinating! Got one? Great! Now here's what you do:
1. Write down what makes you the most happy in life. I don't mean something simple like cookies, or a sports team. I am talking about true happiness-utter bliss…something you laugh out loud about.
2. Write down what scares the heck out of you the most. Is it a fear of dying, falling, losing your job?
3. Write down what motivates you most. Is it money? Helping people? Solving problems? Whatever it is, make sure it is something that would motivate you even if you did it for the rest of your life.
(Note: If you don't know what to answer for one of these questions, put the paper away. Think real hard about it for a few days, and make sure you come back to it. Complete, honest answers are very important)
4. Find something in life that incorporates all three of your answers.
The reason this works to help determine your unique purpose in life is because your answers are unique. By combining what makes you truly happy with what really scares you and what really motivates you, you are automatically revealing your ultimate purpose. It's not hard to find something that incorporates all three. To makes things a little easier to understand- your purpose is not restricted by geography, social or economic class, religion, or any other factor. You can find an outlet for your purpose no matter where you live, eat, work, or play. You can fulfill your purpose while living your usual daily life. Many people think they must make special arrangements, or travel great distances to fulfill their purpose. This is not the case, as there are people in those remote areas to fulfill that need.
Remember, the universe put you exactly where you need to be to serve your life's purpose. It is just waiting on you to realize what that purpose is. If everyone were to do this, the ultimate purpose of the universe and the creator would be fulfilled. I look forward to reading your comments, and life stories. I'll write again soon. Until then, enjoy your awesomeness…enjoy your life!
