Practical Laboratory Question - Removing Cork from a volumetric flask?
So, suffice it to say, I accidentally pushed a small cork stopper into a 200 mL volumetric flask. The cork is the size of the neck of the flask, so removing it is proving quite difficult. I was wondering if anyone had ever dealt with this problem in the past, and if any particular technique was best in retrieving the cork from the flask without breaking the flask. (destroying the cork is ok, if necessary).
Answer:
if you can put the flask in a warm but dry (drying oven) place for a couple of days and then use a long metal rod to skewer it, you can pull it out like that. Just don't let anyone know you did it.:) This way you dehydrate the cork and then can get it out.

The Functionality Of Forbo Cork
For those who are looking for something a little different in a wall covering that is environmentally friendly and will stay looking as good as new for many years there is a product called Forbo cork. This product is made from all natural ingredients that are combined under heavy pressure and heat to product a smooth one quarter inch thick roll of linoleum like material. It is available in a variety of colors and is suitable for use practically anywhere.
Among the most useful features of Forbo cork are that it is soil resistant and the smooth almost suede like surface is easily cleaned. This product is made from a blend of cork, wood flour, pine resin, linseed oil, jute and pigments that combine to create a material that easily accepts a variety of pins and tacks. It can be used in the same way as a bulletin board as the pins can be easily removed from the self-sealing surface leaving no holes behind.
Applications for Forbo cork cover the full spectrum from office walls to classrooms as it can be used to cover small and large areas equally. You can even cover entire walls with this highly versatile material as it does not emit any harmful toxins to the surrounding environment. It has a mat finish and does not create a problem with reflected light. Once properly glued in place it will not warp or crumble and remains dimensionally stable.
When you have a classroom full of noisy children you can find the solid walls do nothing but reflect and amplify the noise until it can become unbearable. If you cover large sections or even all of the wall surfaces with Forbo cork, you will find that it makes a very effective acoustic tile that absorbs large amounts of the ambient noise making for a much more peaceful and easy to teach in environment. Even the students will appreciate this quality as it can make it easier to hear the teacher.
Many business offices are now finding that adding sections of Forbo cork to their walls can add a touch of color and replace the old fashioned bulletin boards with a far more useful product.
Instead of being restricted to the standard size boards, you can buy this material in rolls that are either 48 or 72 inches wide and in any length you need or want. You can even buy it precut in tiles and buy several different colors to create your own patterns on the walls.
While Forbo cork is already available in a dozen different colors, Fabricmate offers a unique fabric covering for their tiles. You can use their "floating-fabric" system to change the fabric covering to achieve different effects, add school logos or company logos as needed. You can order completed panels in a variety of sizes up to 4 feet by 8 feet and have them delivered to your door. These panels will be complete and ready to install on almost any…
